Downton Abbey by Car
9 hour tour

A must for all you Downton fans.

First we’ll visit the Cotswold village of Bampton where many of the external scenes were filmed. We’ll see the village green, the church and the hospital too before making our way to the Castle itself. On arrival at Highclere we’ll have various local options for lunch.

Highclere is one of England’s most beautiful Victorian Castles. Set in 1,000 acres of the most spectacular parkland, today it is the home of the present 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. You’ll enter the rooms and hallways where many of your favourite scenes were filmed. Including the carrying of Kemal’s body along the corridor, the Gallery where Mary and Mathew danced and the Library and Dining Rooms too.

There is also an opportunity to visit the onsite Egyptian exhibition. Did you know that the 5th Earl of Carnarvon along with Howard Carter were responsible for the fascinating discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922?

*Please be aware that Highclere Castle is only open on certain dates.*
